I had some friends over to play in the studio today...Needless to say, we had a ball...we stamped, I showed them all sorts of techniques and stuff, cooked them lunch, it was great...I fixed Crescent Roll Pizza's and Pecan Crescents for dessert...We started with the Sizzix die cut mittens...show me something using these...I started with plain white die cut mitten shapes...
Put them in the Cuttlebug snowflake embossing folder, leaving the cuff part of the mittens sticking out...so they will not get embossed...
Run this thru the machine...yes, my top cutting plate is yucky looking, yes, it is cracked, yes, it is warped and bowed...and yes, it still cuts and embosses just fine...and until that cracks goes all the way across...I will continue to use it...
Ok...now we have embossed mittens...pretty like they are...but...I love blue for snow and winter scenes...I lived in England as a child and I can remember looking out across the snow covered yard where we lived...on a full moon night and the snow was the most beautiful shade of blue...it was amazing...so anyway...I relate snow to blue and cold and icy and all that stuff...
I punched 1/8th inch holes into each mitten cuff...used some beautiful organza ribbon from Really Reasonable Ribbon...its a very pale blue color...put the ends thru the holes and tied simple knots...
I embossed the snowman folder and rubbed dark blue ink over the entire piece...I then cut the sections apart...and used the ones I wanted for this card...I added a snowflake brad from SkyBluePink...
I used the snowflake folder to emboss the layering panel, colored it with a light blue ink using my stipple brush, then smoothed the embossing flat using my bone folder...yes, you can run the piece back thru your machine, just placing the cardstock between the "b" plates...but I choose to use my bone folder to smooth the embossed areas back flat...This was a fun little project card to make...we also did some sticky note covers...and used this idea on one the other was teacher themed...
